World’s First Demonstration of MHz-class Power ConversionUsing a Diamond MOSFET
- Enabling Higher Power Density in Power Converters through 6.78 MHz High-Frequency Switching -

Power Diamond Systems, Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; CEO: Tatsuya Fujishima) has developed a Class-E amplifier evaluation board for diamond devices and successfully demonstrated Class-E amplifier operation at 6.78 MHz using a diamond MOSFET for the first time in the world*. This operating frequency is more than ten times higher than those reported previously for power conversion using diamond devices.
This achievement represents an important step toward the practical implementation of diamond devices for high-frequency power conversion, with potential applications in wireless power transfer (WPT) systems and next-generation AI data centers.
The diamond MOSFET and Class-E amplifier evaluation board used in this demonstration will be integrated into a WPT system board and exhibited at CEATEC 2026, to be held at Makuhari Messe from Oct. 13 to 16, 2026.

Background of the Research

In recent years, the growing size of drones, increasing battery capacities, the widespread adoption of industrial robots, and advances in physical AI have created a growing demand for wireless power transfer (WPT) systems that can deliver higher power while maintaining a compact form factor. In response to these demands, converting power at higher frequencies is expected to enable the miniaturization of circuit components and increase the power density of the overall system. Against this backdrop, WPT systems using Class-E amplifiers, which are well suited for high-frequency operation, are attracting attention as a promising approach for next-generation WPT systems.
Meanwhile, power devices face challenges associated with power losses and heat generation during high-power, high-frequency operation, which can limit further increases in power capability. Therefore, power semiconductor devices are required that can operate at high frequencies while minimizing power losses and efficiently dissipating the heat generated during operation.
Diamond has excellent semiconductor properties, including exceptionally high thermal conductivity. By leveraging its superior heat dissipation and high-speed switching characteristics, diamond power devices are expected to contribute to the realization of WPT systems that combine high power capability with compact size. To date, a DC/DC converter operating at several hundred kilohertz using diamond devices has been reported. However, the feasibility of achieving the several-megahertz high-speed switching required for WPT systems using diamond devices in practical power conversion circuits has not yet been sufficiently demonstrated.

Research Results

In this research, we developed an evaluation board for a Class-E amplifier circuit using a diamond MOSFET and successfully demonstrated Class-E amplifier operation in the 6.78 MHz high-frequency range, which is expected to be used in WPT systems. This represents a demonstration of operation at a frequency more than ten times higher than those previously reported for power conversion using diamond devices.
This achievement demonstrates the potential of diamond devices for high-frequency power conversion in next-generation WPT systems. Furthermore, it indicates the potential for applying high-frequency operation technologies for diamond devices to power conversion technologies for next-generation AI data centers, where higher voltage, higher power, and higher power density are expected to be required in the future.
Going forward, we will work to further increase the voltage and current capabilities of diamond MOSFETs, with the aim of applying them to higher-power, high-frequency power conversion. In addition to WPT, we will also promote application development for areas such as AI data centers, where higher voltage, higher power, and higher power density are required, through collaboration with external partners. Through these efforts, we will accelerate the development of diamond power devices toward their practical implementation.

Power Diamond Systems’ CEATEC 2026 Exhibition Overview

The exhibition booth is 6H140.
