前週末20日の米国株式市場は下落。原油高が米国内のインフレを押し上げるとの見通しから年内の利上げ観測が浮上、終日長期金利の急伸が警戒され、トランプ政権がイランで地上戦を準備しているとの報道も戦闘激化への懸念を強めた。また、3種類の先物やオプション満期が重なるトリプルウィッチングに伴うテクニカルな売りも膨らみ、主要指数は終盤にかけて下げ幅を広げて終了した。米株式市場の動向を横目に、3月23日の日経平均は大幅続落でスタートした。3連休明けの日経平均は米株安の流れから売りが先行、終日51,500円付近で軟調もみ合い展開となった。日米首脳会談では良好な関係構築がみられたものの、中東情勢を映してリスク回避の動きが広がった。また、中東情勢の長期化懸念を背景に原油高と金利上昇が同時に進み、国内長期金利は2.305％と2カ月ぶり高水準を付けたことも投資家心理の重しとなった。
大引けの日経平均は前営業日比1,857.04円安の51,515.49円となった。東証プライム市場の売買高は26億8,014万株、売買代金は7兆8,003億円だった。業種別では、海運業、非鉄金属、不動産業を筆頭に全業種が下落した。東証プライム市場の値上がり銘柄は4.1％、対して値下がり銘柄は95.3％となっている。
