前日18日の米国株式市場は反発。11月消費者物価指数（CPI）の鈍化を好感し、寄り付き後、大幅上昇。その後、政府機関閉鎖による算出における制限で、データに懐疑的な見方も一部で広がり伸び悩んだ。しかし、マイクロンがけん引したほか利下げ期待にハイテクが大きく買われ、相場を支援し終日堅調に推移した。米株市場を横目に、本日の日経平均は反発して取引を開始。その後も買い手優位の状況が続いてじり高基調になると、前場終盤には49500円を超えた。後場以降は高値圏でもみ合う展開となったが、上げ幅を縮小する動きは限定的だった。海外市場で米長期金利が低下したことが安心感となり、東京市場でも直近軟調だったハイテク株や半導体関連株に物色が向かった。また、日経平均は今週に入り昨日まで1800円を超す下げとなっていたことから、押し目待ちや自律反発狙いの買いも入りやすかった。そのほか、日銀金融政策決定会合で利上げが決まったが、市場ですでに織り込み済みとの見方が多く、イベント通過の安心感も広がった。
大引けの日経平均は前営業日比505.71円高の49507.21円となった。東証プライム市場の売買高は27億4668万株、売買代金は6兆6499億円だった。業種別では、非鉄金属、建設業、情報・通信業などが上昇した一方で、その他製品、海運業、水産・農林業などが下落した。東証プライム市場の値上がり銘柄は72.2％、対して値下がり銘柄は23.9％となっている。
