前日18日の米国株式市場はまちまち。中東問題で外交的解決への期待に買戻しが優勢となった。その後、連邦準備制度理事会（FRB）が市場予想通り政策金利据え置きを決定、金融当局者が依然年2回の利下げ予想を維持したため利下げ期待に伴う買いがさらに強まったが、同時に、パウエル議長が会見で今後数カ月のインフレを想定していると警告すると、金利上昇を嫌気しダウは下げに転じ、主要指数は高安まちまちで終了した。米株式市場の動向を横目に、19日の日経平均は4日ぶりに反落して取引を開始した。朝方の売り一巡後は落ち着きを取り戻し、指数も38600円付近で横ばい推移となった。ただ、買い手に乏しく終盤にかけてやや下げ幅を広げる動きを見せ、本日安値で取引を終了した。中東情勢の緊迫度が増しており、地政学リスクの高まりが意識されて投資家心理を慎重にさせた。さらに、日経平均は昨日までの3日続伸で1000円を超す上げとなったことから、目先的な利益確定売りも出やすかった。積極的に買い進む材料も乏しく、終日軟調に推移した。
大引けの日経平均は前日比396.81円安の38488.34円となった。東証プライム市場の売買高は14億3226万株、売買代金は3兆6462億円だった。業種別では、医薬品、電気機器、輸送用機器が下落した一方で、水産・農林業、陸運業、小売業が上昇した。東証プライム市場の値上がり銘柄は40.4％、対して値下がり銘柄は54.7％となっている。
